One of the greatest aspects of teaching is we as coaches have the ability to influence greatness in others. Our presence is somewhat breathtaking at times as everyday we can bring happiness and inspiration to the students wanting to learn the game. So I ask you a question: what do you do to raise your levels of greatness?

教学的巨大作用之一是我们作为教练可以去影响他人的成绩。我们的工作充满激情，每天都能给学生带去快乐和灵感，学生也因此更愿意学习打高尔夫。我想问请你一个问题：你如何提高自己的教练水平？

The other evening I was with a group of friends and one of my colleagues showed me a device I could use to help the student see their swings on their cell phones. I had no idea that this type of program existed. So today I am checking into this service to help my students become better players. A friend of mine named Martin Hall, 2008 PGA of America Teacher of the Year, always gives me inspiration because of his creativity and passion for explaining the swing in terms of feel. He is always developing devices or tools to get his students to feel the clubhead.

一个晚上我和一群朋友小聚，一位同事向我展示了一款设备，它能让学生们在手机上看自己击球姿势。我以前从来不知道有这样的设备。我从今天开始用这个设备来帮助学生们更好地打球。马丁·霍尔是我一名好友，2008年PGA年度最佳教练获得者。他很有创造力并且为人热情，擅长通过描述感觉来讲解击球姿势，他自己研发了一些设备和工具来让学生们感受到球杆杆头，这些都给了我很多教学灵感。

Listening to other teachers always helps me see and understand the swing in a new light.

Jack Grout, Jack Nicklaus’ lifelong swing coach, was one of my mentors because of his extensive experience. He was like no other teacher. His ability to explain the swing was like a grandfather talking with their grandchild. He got the students to relax and believe they could accomplish their goals. He told me one time a good teacher is one that does not talk so much but gets the student to do the talking.

杰克·克劳特是著名高尔夫球场设计师杰克·尼克劳斯终生的良师益友，他学生众多，我也曾拜在他门下学习。他和其他老师很不一样，听他讲解高尔夫击球姿势就像在和自己的祖父聊天。他能让学生很放松并且对自己能打好球充满自信。他曾经说好老师不一定要自己多说，但要让自己的学生多讲述感受。

We are fraternity of teachers. We need to meet not just occasionally but as much as possible. When I worked at Frenchman’s Creek in Florida, every Friday we would meet at the clubhouse.

我们有一个教练联合会，彼此见面交流越多越好。当我在佛罗里达州法国人湾工作时，每周五我们都会在会所见面交流。

That’s when the young teachers could learn from Mr. Grout, legendary teacher Jim Flick and long time  tour player and teacher Gardner Dickinson. They would have different views on the way the swing was to be taught or different views on the industry as a whole. It was always interesting and informative. I can not remember leaving these gatherings without a new vision for my students. Listening to each other can lead to better presentations for our students and growth of the game.

  年轻教练能从杰克·克劳特、吉姆·弗里克以及加德纳·迪金森这样的传奇教练以及球手身上学到很多东西。他们对击球姿势的理解各有不同，对高尔夫行业整体发展的观念也各有千秋。但学习的过程总是妙趣横生且获益匪浅。学生的新观点，也总能促进我的教学。彼此之间互相聆听能提高自己授课水平也能提高学生打球水平。

When I was giving a golf clinic for a company in Hawaii, the C.E.O. of the company told me a story about Jim Flick. He told Jim that he was like a used car salesperson. Jim could have been a little embarrassed but he responded with a big smile and said thanks. He then told the clinic that teaching golf is like being a salesman. We have to do whatever it takes to sell our idea for the student so they can play better.

当我在夏威夷为当地一个公司教授高尔夫技术时，他们的执行总裁和我说了一个关于吉姆·弗里克的故事。这位总裁和吉姆说，他就像一个二手车商人。吉姆非但没有觉得尴尬，反而笑着回答谢谢。吉姆后来在高尔夫学校也说教学就像销售。我们得使出浑身解数来让学生们理解我们的观点，从而让他们更好地打球。

Talking with each other, learning about new technology, and understanding new ways of expressing our thoughts will help the industry grow. Our passion for the game will be seen by others and that results in better scores and greater growth of the game we all love.

多和人交流，学习新技术，理解和阐述新观点都能帮助我们行业的发展。我们对于高尔夫的热情被其他人看在眼里，这也会让高尔夫球手技术越来越好，比赛越来越红火。
