Working in the golf industry in China is quite different to many other places in the world.  When compared to the western society, golf clubs in China are managed quite differently and the golf professional have a slightly different role at the club.

在中国的高尔夫行业工作和在其它国家很不一样。和西方社会相比较，中国的高尔夫俱乐部管理方式有点不同，职业高尔夫教练在俱乐部扮演的角色也有所不同。

Teaching is my main duty and it has been an interesting experience getting used to the environment.
教学是我在俱乐部的主要职责。适应中国高尔夫俱乐部的环境很有意思。

Although golf has been introduced to China for 20 years now, golfers in China are still mostly beginners.  They learn a lot from books, magazines, and DVDs.  Most of these materials are written in a foreign language and then translated into Chinese.  Unfortunately a lot of the true meanings are lost in translation or the readers will read the words according to their own understanding and different to what the author had in mind.  There are only a small percentage of golfers willing to learn from a professional coach and I believe there are a number of reasons for that.

尽管高尔夫在中国已经有20年历史，但大部分球手都还是初学者。他们大都从书本、杂志和DVD中学习。这些教学材料大都是外文原版，然后被翻译成中文引进。很不幸的是，在翻译过程中很多意思都丢失了，读者们会根据自己的理解臆想作者本来的意思。只有很少比例的球手愿意和专业高尔夫教练学习，我认为发生这种情况的原因如下。

First of all, there are many coaches that call themselves professionals who are not that professional.  Most of them have only learnt the basics of the golf swing and their understanding of how the golf club and the body move during the golf swing are very limited.   Therefore, student golfers do not improve after instruction by the coach, which leads a lot of golfers to believe that having a golf lesson is not worthwhile.

首先，有很多并非专业的教练自称很专业。他们知道得也很有限，大都只学了一点高尔夫击球的基本知识，略知高尔夫打球姿势。因此，学员们在这样的教练指导下进步很小，这就让很多高尔夫球手开始觉得上高尔夫课没有价值。

Secondly, there are a lot of talented golfers who pick up golf in their own way and who score quite well. These golfers believe that “if I am playing better than the coach, why do I need to waste my time and money?”   What it takes to become a golf coach in China is very easy, and life as a golf coach is a much better job for some people in terms of pay and working environment.  Since it is quite easy to become one, a lot of people have stepped into the golf coaching business.   However, because these coaches are not professional enough, many students are not happy with the instruction and service that they have been given.   Coaches in general have lost respect, value and trust from golfers.

其次，有不少极具天分的球手用自己的方式打球也取得了很好的成绩。他们开始想：如果我比教练打得好，为什么我还要浪费钱和时间请教练呢？在中国想成为一个高尔夫教练十分容易，从薪酬和工作环境来说，当高尔夫教练是一个很不错的工作。正因为当教练很容易，许多人就踏入高尔夫教练这个行业。因此，许多教练不够专业，学员对他们提供的指导和服务并不满意，这样教练就失去了球手的尊重、价值以及信任。
